Hi guys
I am looking for some advice please .
I have bought a new headliner for my sunroof car and I am planning on installing it myself.
The sunroof cars do not have support rods holding up the material

There is a light wooden panel between the metal roof itself and the headliner cloth
Does anyone know if I am supposed to apply glue to that so that the headliner sticks to it ?
I’m just wondering how does the material obtain a curve while installing it as it does not use any support rods ( or maybe it should not curve and should be stretched flat before gluing around all the windows openings )
Anyway any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks

Hi Barry,

I did my own headlining in my manual sunroof coupe.

No, you do not glue the headlining to the board that's in the back half of the roof. Basically when the headlining is in place it naturally takes the right shape.

You'll need good glue and a good supply of bulldog (I think that's the term) type clips.

I'd recommend doing the back part first. You'll see from the first photo that when you start there will be creases, so you'll need to apply of tension both backwards and to the sides of the window aperture to pull them out. More than likely you'll need to unstick and restick the edges a few times as you go. The only thing I'd do differently second time around would be to leave out the grab handles.

Hi there thank you for the info
I don’t think I currently own enough clips/ clamps for the job so I will definitely purchase a few before I try and tackle it.
Would you prefer not to have the grab handles at all, or would you prefer that you fitted them later on , and not during the initial “stretching “ of the cloth for glueing around the edges ?

Nobody has had difficulty with the zipper that exposes the motor for the sunroof? The zipper is steel and hard to find , at least a few years back. Most zippers were nylon and colored.
