I propose a change for the classifieds sections

re restricting classifieds

I would also voice my opinion against restricting the classifieds, or requiring advertisers to "introduce themselves to the board" before advertising.

I am one of the great majority of members who are "lurkers", reading much and saying little, and will probably never make 100 posts, ever. Hardly anybody knows "who the heck I am", and I am very OK with that.

I found a very nice coupe for sale by a car-guy nearby who didn't know about this web site. I didn't want his car and referred him to this site. He joined, posted an ad, sold the car, and probably hasn't been back to the site since. I'll bet both he and the buyer would be against restricting the classifieds.

A basic truism of management is that you discipline the offenders individually rather than restricting the compliant majority, until the size becomes too big to manage. I would defer to the volunteers who run the board to decide when the process becomes too laborious to manage and restrictions become necessary.

This is so simple....ask yourself this question. Will limiting and restricting people selling stuff help or hurt the rest of the people in this forum? I say, that since cars and parts are hard to find on these cars we should make it as easy as possible for people to post. I don't have anything to sell...but I am always looking for a good buy.

Listing parts FS on the board--do we or don't we--

Surprise--was recently called to task for posting a set of finely restored and aptly described set of staggered Alpinas For Sale--quite frankly it surprised me to be called down by a couple of fellow "seasoned" members--I did question why privately.

If as one member has suggested--one may need to be qualified to post--
today as one of the longest continuous E-9 owners globally--now 37 years of multiple E-9 ownership in our warm and welcoming community--with more Coupe seat time than any other owner--over 500.000 miles now--and much more in depth Coupe involvement including finding and sorting fine examples for several mambers--believe I'm seasoned enough to know correctness in Coupeland.

Yet--in spite of the obvious popularity of staggered 16X7 & 8" Alpinas with fellow owners--my boldness in posting a description of these favorites among Coupe owners--two fellow members raised issues as to the propriety of posting same--and one even suggested that I had "broken published rules" for same--though must admit I've not seen those rules.

My question--do we or don't we share availability of E-9 related parts--we are probably sufficiently mature to handle same.

If we are putting this up to vote--mine is in the affirmative--to have both requests for needed E-9 parts and availability of E-9 parts be an available and useful resource and tool of this board!!

Murry, not sure about the details of your post(s), except that your first post was in the General Discussion Forum, which I moved to the Parts Classifed Forum. Your second post about the wheels for sale in the General Discussion Forum was deleted. Your first post is still in the Parts section. If there was a "rules" violation it was only that you posted in the wrong forum.

not like there are scads of for sale postings here anymore anyways, in the past, previous forum sellers eventually quit offering "on line" because of all the anonymous smack-down trash talk. While it appears the consensus (and list owner's) preference is to leave things as-is, I'd just suggest a caveat to potential buyers, and a suggestion to chatters that they control their chat to the same degree of decorum they would apply in, say, a neighbor's garage. It isn't a night at the opera, but its not a night at kelly's pool hall either!
