When I first got my car, I noticed that there was an indicator light on my console that said "ICE", and thought "oh that's interesting", then forgot about it. Last week, as I was going through the boxes of parts that I found in the trunk, I pulled out a chrome plated, disc shaped object roughly 5-6 inches across with "ICELERT" molded into the cover, and some wires hanging out of it. I went out to look again, and found some wires hiding behind the front fascia with matching connectors. I also have a hole in the front bumper to mount this thing. I did a little research and found that a similar product was offered as an option on Rovers. If anyone knows about this coming with the car, or has a wiring diagram, or anything like that, info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My guess is that the gadget in question tells you when ice has accumulated on it using non-visible light sensors. Interesting for planes where ice on the surfaces is a big problem, for a car black ice on the road is the problem. For that and other reasons I have never seen one in California...
