Depending on the year of the car (I think) there are different dust caps for the bleeders. Some just stick on the fitting and some have a collar on them so you don't lose them. That looks possibly like the collar part of the cover, which if I am correct, failed miserably. But you can get a replacement at any auto parts store.. but it won't be original :-)

i will need more views of the part and your finger to identify the size
but it seems to me more like a sealing ring

and that worries me

how clean is your garaje ? i mean which are the chances of this becoming from the car last job made ?

good pic, i would say that is not a bleeder cap

it seems more similar to the rubber seals used between the blue hose's pipes tyat come from the brake fluid reservoir, and the brake master cyl

can you check all those seals ? they are three, two in the master cyl and one in the clutch master cyl

are you experiencing leaks ?

btw, how clean is your wife ?...;-)

hmm, how to explain this?

You have different fastener for tubes and pipes right? Some are the bendy ones you just shape to keep something in place and some may be more solid.

Anyway, I have seen people put a bit of tubing around whatever is in the fastener to protect it. Like whereever a brakeline is held in place you put this rubber thing so the brake like is not rubbing against something

So what is it, where does it go, and where do I get a new one?
It can be E9, E24, or M5 but most likely E9.

Maybe I should present an easier object to identify I saw yesterday parked in the Mission.

Looks like a BMW motorcycle under the blue cover...
Or is it the rear view mirror in the fore ground?

Looked like a Polaris whose paint lost its shine. Stance seems strong, big new tires.
So many things my eyes cannot I see until I crowd source it...
Still waiting for somebody to spot Elvis and maybe a lady in lingerie in one of the windows.

Arde,

I was in the garage working on the coupe and saw this on the bench.
It's a cover for a bleed screw on a brake caliper.
It's an old one, may be original.
I remembered this post and thought I would see how a 10mm would look next to these as they are actually quite big.
If you take the top off and leave the body it looks very much like the item you were trying to identify.
See what you think?

Interesting, I need to order some such objects and go around plugging the missing ones then. Thanks.
