Can anyone advise how I may be able to determine what the original interior colour scheme of my coupe was ?
I need to replace seat covers (in particular) and given the fading of the material it could have been grey / beige / light grey ... :-? !
and the carpet is a beigy colour with a greenish tinge .... it als may have been grey (?) but is also badly faded.
I would like to keep it to the original scheme if possible and there appears to be a couple of places that offer original BMW colours ie: GAHH and World Upholstery

Any advice is appreciated

Carl

good luck on getting samples from GAHH. i have sent 5 emails (and had responses) promising to send me the samples - none received ... been trying since 5 july. gives me serious pause about ordering seat covers. sent them a followup today.

World upholstery is always very prompt (2-3 days) with my sample requests. Much cheaper than Gahh too. Quality of leather is probably not as good as Gahh, but their workmanship is first rate.

My brother redid the whole leather interior on his MB 280SE 3.5 coupe from World a few years ago, and the hide color and stitching/fit were excellent.

Check

the brochures for grey on the CS registry, general information. ( CS with horses) The car is dark blue with a decidedly grey and blue interior.

I've wondered about the grey as well since it doesn't seem well documented on the euros either. I have a light grey and blue interior by the way.

Your post suggests your current interior is all original. If this is the case, you might have all the answers at arm's length, i.e., you ought to find a few areas of upholstery and carpeting that have been hidden from the sun's glare. I would expect the carpet under the seats and tucked or folded upholstery would yield the best clues/samples. Of course, if your interior is not original, the sales literature, as suggested, is your best bet for a starting point.

Funny thing about trying to match original fabric colours, unless the samples are carefully stored, they too are susceptible to fading!

i finally got a response to my email yesterday ... and a tracking number. i guess telling them i was tired of waiting and that i guessed i would go with world upholstery changed their tune. i will look at their colors when i get their samples.

Send PM ?

Hello Carl,

I have the 70'es original "BMW Farb und Austattungsmusterbuch" that gives the indications about matching external colors to upholstery.
The same indications the common leaflet gives.
But this book provides also real samples of velours, vinyl or leather of the car. This could be interesting if yours have faded.
If interested, just send me the BMW code of what you looking for (via PM)
