guys,

what type of socket is used for the ignition key light? the light that illuminates Stan's prisms. is it a similar socket as the of lamps in the gauges?

It's a plastic socket with a spade on one side and a metal tab on the other. Fits into the cavity of the upper column cover:

Metal tab side (up by the bulb):

Spade connector faces out/down, tab connects to the metal housing when pressed in, the ring around the plastic socket fits into a slot in the housing:

yeah look at that... intricate well focused photos only 24 minutes later! Maybe I should ask some questions and see what the response time is for coupes out in the middle of nowhere.

the part is basically NLA, and you were so lucky to find a replacement, wow !

i was not so lucky, but manufactured a solution for this using a conventional bulb socket, it still works ok:p

see it here,

as a collateral effect of this work on the driving lights, i found that my prism was there (good), but the bulb was not (baaad)

as it is not possible to find the support of this light i had to find a similar one and make a little magic:

and that is all, now it works:

I just removed mine

I drove one of my many Coupes from Stockholm to Southern Switzerland where I arrived this afternoon. A neat little trip of 1,250 miles. The first evening was all in the dark and that silly light annoyed me as it lit the ashtray on the passenger door, so I simply removed the bulb. Much better. I went back to 2W on the turn signal (green) light as well, having upgraded it to 4W along with all the instr lighting bulbs. I cannot find 3W so its either the original 2W or 4W.
The car used zero oil on this trip. The engine was new from BMW some 5 years/10,000 miles ago, and prior to my acquisition.
It has the 3.45 and 5 speed Getrag with OD on 5th. 80 MPH at 3.300 with good acceleration. Stock CSi engine. On another one I have the same box and 3.15 diff. That car has a 250 HP 3.5 L engine so it works.
Its fun to be in the left lane of the Autobahn at 100 MPH along with the modern Audis and BMWs. Of course I let many of them pass, as some are doing 130 and more. Many thumbs up....The car has my favorite colour: Turkis. Michelin XWX with 2.3kg and front and rear axle in better than new condition. 41 years old and better looking than all the modern stuff...
