Hi All, I have just bought a 1975 CSI in decent condition. It is to go through full bare metal resto.

It's dark blue however I want to change to Fjord blue...reason is I dont want colour change showing on the log book...still blue.

The other is like a Tiaga Green 2800 bat look i had years ago i want to go all out and create a bat look again.

Now my understanding is that originally only 2 Fjord blue ever left the factory. One being series 2 heavier version.

Views please..

I’ve debated color changes here on the forum as well. Members have been very helpful with thoughts in this arena. Their responses vary depending on weather the car is of noteworthy significance (such as a CSL), or how much of a purist they themselves are. Others took market values and resale into account with this decision. Others gave advise to enjoy my car the way I want it to be regardless of these factors.
It sounds as though you are asking about color and authenticity with regards to how many CSLs were produced in your color preference. At the end of the day, any serious enthusiast will know that the car is not a CSL. As such it can only ever be sold as a clone (perhaps a great one, but still only a clone). There is nothing wrong with this, I just don’t believe that potential profits should be considered part of a build when authenticity has been departed.
Having said this, I will be changing color on one of my cars to a color that was never produced in an e9 (Reseda green). My car is just one more in a long line of imperfect 3.0 cs cars. It will never be of any historical or authentic value as there are many more better than this one. As such, drivetrain, color and interior will all be ever so slightly modified to suit MY liking. I happen to love the lighter metallic colors on these cars (except the Polaris, which this one is).
My only strong recommendation, and it is a very STRONG recommendation, is that you spend the time and money to do the work to it’s highest level. This will ultimately carry greater weight with regards to personal satisfaction as well as market value. Much luck to you

My dad always said "Make it the way you like it, just don't think anyone you later sell it to will pay you back for the personal changes you made. You changed it to your taste, not theirs".

Exactly why I'm also changing the colour of my CS to another e9 colour, the original colour was chosen to suit somebody else's taste, not mine.
I agree with Oldbmwcoupes, on an e9 that is not 100% original, quality and thoroughness of a paint job is more valuable than purely the original colour.

Welcome…we were wondering who bought the car! Where are you based?

As some have already mentioned, purists might say always stick to the original colour but for me personally that doesn't so much apply with bare metal restorations…so choose what ever colour you like!

More importantly do keep us up to date on the progress.

ABZY..

Who is going to do your bare metal resto ie private individual or a garage ???

If you are looking for a specialist to work on your car, I highly recommend Paul Baker....he's the man !!!

Yes I think you should go for any colour, even a non BMW colour if you want. For me Audi Castle Red would be fantastic on an e9!
With black seats and grey door cards etc. I suspect you will have to change the cards as the seat look in super condition.

I’ve only seen one BMW in Reseda..... absolutely loved it and considered it my self.
I will have something that color when I find the right car.

I'm of the opinion that any color change should be at least be a color that was offered that year.

I. E. As if you were to order the car back in 1974
