Does anyone know or have the experience of buying a Canadian registered classic car while it is in the U.S. on a temporary basis? That car came in with the Canadian owner but was not formally entered through customs.

1. Since no declaration was done at Port of Entry, can custom declaration be done after the fact?
2. Can this (customs declaration) be done only by the registered owner?
3. Must it be registered with any DMV before it can be sold?

Anyone with information, please help. Thank you all.

I would contact a broker and ask them. I would think it has been done before - they would know the details (I would think).

Chris, Tim from Canada here. The car must be exported from Canada to the US from Canada. There are no shortcuts. If the car is in the US, it must return to Canada and then be exported. US Customs will charge approximately 2% duty. There are no shortcuts for you to obtain clear title. I am in Vancouver. If you need any help from my broker let me know. Best wishes, Tim.
