Installing New Ignition Switch

I recently ordered a new ignition switch for the coupe while I had one of our favorite mechanics from the SF area out here working on it. Problem is it didn't get to the island before he had already done his work and flown the coop.
So now I have installed the new one as far as connecting the appropriate wires and the car will crank. BUT I now have the pigtail and switch itself just hanging from the steering column b/c I hear it's a major PITA to re-install. Something about breaker bars and dropping the steering column. Who here cares to shed some light on the subject so that I can give this a shot? I can't wait months until I have the one guy I trust to do this here again. I will say thank you in advance.

one of the worst r&r jobs on the coupe - right up there with clock removal. all you need to know is in thread below. keys to success: take your time, drink beer before, during, and after.
 
Are you replacing the lock cylinder or just the switch? Doesn't the switch just attach to the lock with a grub screw if you're not replacing the cylinder?
 
Mr. Carl, what you need to do currently is replace your ignition switch.
Not a big deal.
What you need to do eventually is replace your ignition lock so that your keys match your car.
That's a pain in the butt.
Luckily your anti-theft headless bolts have already been chiseled out.

I'm just replacing the switch. Thanks for the reassurance, Don. I can see the distinction you are making here and think I understand. If I'm correct. I should be able to line up the new switch inside the cylinder using the grub screw hole and a nub on the switch end as points of reference. Then it's just a matter of inserting the grub screw and tucking wires.
I can see how needing to replace the cylinder would require the aforementioned breaker bar and more patience. I just wanted to make sure I was on the right track before I made an big boy boo-boo. I appreciate the input by all
