Thank you for posting @Mike Goble. I had to read it twice. My mind is blown, and I humbly remind myself that I know almost nothing about engine tuning. Not when it comes to squeezing blood out of a turnip anyway. I’d love to know what came of this.
The biggest takeaway from this for me was the mention of the intake port floor being too large, and adding epoxy to shrink it up.
At the end of the day I’ll throw a rebuilt head on my car with a bigger cam, and possibly a spring upgrade depending on cam choice. One can’t get too creative with intake runner lengths after that if they plan to run an Alpina intake plenum with 90 degree “trumpets” (really they have no bell on the end at all).
When I was researching ITB’s I read quite a bit about pulse tuning by way of velocity stack length. Interesting stuff. I determined that on my small 2.8 motor I would have wanted stacks that were so long that an air filter was out of the question. Since then I decided to keep my carbs and bought a B35. No replacement for displacement right?
