It has been brought to my attention that this part is possibly in demand.

Would there be any interest if we reproduced it? Without the felt :)

If not, I will sell this one, and drop the subject.

Alberto- many are melted or broken/cracked so there is a need.

We do have a forum member who is 3D printing this currently and they are high quality.

How can I post this as a poll :

1. No interest
2. Interested if it were within XYZ price range (please reflect range)
3. Interested but not anytime soon
4. Definitely Interested (most important)

One important issue, is if @Xatlas is producing them, and people are happy, I think I ought to bow out ?
 
I would urge against bowing out. From my understanding @x_atlas0 has a great product and if the current used one you’ve offered doesn’t end up in my clutches then I will reach back out to him, but for hard to find NLA items such as this I personally would prefer to have multiple options available. As a current example, an AC faceplate and the LCWylie compressor bracket are both items on my “I need them but the members making them don’t have available or in the immediate pipeline” list. Having backup options is always better.
 
Today, we started making the initial mould.

I am impressed about the cloth inside. A filtering agent? To me, more of a germ trap ...
 
So the cloth you see in my photo, reddish hue, is a ... whatever got in there? Somehow?

Therefore does not belong there?

Correction: Had not read @sfdon explanation, so it belongs there. Very FARMALL type of solution :)
 
I'm pretty sure the felt was black when it was new but the dye has faded with exposure to ozone and time. It is 50+ years old and hasn't been stored inside. This material will dampen some of the fan noise while the heat/ac is running. Not a trivial consideration.

Still, an impressive HVAC solution, if not rather pedestrian. :)
 
I will say my part isn't a direct copy, I changed a lot of the internal design and materials to make it more robust. Also, the number of people buying one of these in a given year is usually <5, so it's pretty uncommon.

@sfdon I'm glad you like it, please let me know when you need more.

With my recent job change, I'm trying out printing the part in a new way, which should decrease the cost substantially.

i could be in the market very soon. i have an original, but this could be good to give it a whirl. drop me a line and let me know what improvements you have done.

Getting back to the starting post :)

Intermediate section for ventilation - A/C​

Today we started pulling the mould. It is very basic, one section is just the flat top part and the rest is the box with 2 sides, et al.
it will be 100% exactly as sample, no need to change or improve. Rock solid.

Ought to have it done by end of next week. And, yes Toto, it really takes 40+ hours to make a mould (ready to use) as this. :)

As always, a bulletproof assembly that will outlast the car, just as the rest of the items we make. The cloth and felt, will be the 'coopistas' choice.
