Is there a list of vin numbers for CSL's

Hi all,

Is there a list a vin numbers of csl's produced?

Also what are the differences of CSL shells to a standard version as im going to look at one next week and want to be certain what i might be buying.

RHD CSL VIN should start with 2285.

Alloy bonnet, bootlid and doors on the CSL (with city pack this may be debatable however). Roof is thinner, should be able to depress it by lightly pressing down on it.

@sandhu isn't a million miles away from you, maybe he can help out?

Just a few points here - in lezebre's website he mentions aluminium door handles for the CSL. My CSL does not feature these. It does, however, feature aluminium door hinges. I think I am right in saying that all RHD CSL's (2285***) have a factory-fitted LSD. I think that aluminium headlight access covers were not limited to just CSL's - my CSi has these. The CSL does not have aluminium doors; just the door skins. The bonnet stays are quite different on the CSL. Otherwise, the previous posts represent fairly accurate guidance IMHO. Hope this assists.
 
As far as I know from working on classic BMW's and from my own CSiL,
for RHD UK citypack cars

alloy door skins, although some cars were sold with all steel!
alloy door hinges,
all alloy boot and bonnet (steel boot lid fitted with large rear spoiler)
alloy sill covers,
alloy headlamp access covers (only CSL)
black headliner although white could be ordered as an option,
Scheel seats although std. seats in the same fabric were an option,
LSD std.
engine was at first rebore oversize to take it over 3000cc
lowered springs
different shocks
Thinner front wings although not many still have them as they became NLA many years ago
Thinner roof,
Maybe thinner rear wings or maybe an urban myth

never seen alloy door handles on a UK road car,

what have I forgotten?

The VIN will always match the registration, just the rest you need to check!

Hi. I have a UK RHD CSL which I bought in bits and is being restored. Interesting list to go through checking off items! All I am missing really is the front scheel seats - you mention that standard seats in the same fabric where available as an option? do you have a source for this? I have a standard set of seats and really quite like them but thought they would be totally wrong in the CSL - might reconsider if I could do the mental gymnastics to convince myself putting them in would have any basis in originality!
 
Because of the FIA homologation rules for Gr2.
It allowed the CSL to race in the class above 3 liters, with up to 3499ccm.
