Is this Ebay Chamonix 1972 3.0 a "correct" car?

I dont think BMW put side markers on until '74...due to USDOT requirements. If so and it is a US car, then it should have had the "big bumpers". Having said that, mine is a '74 with side markers and Euro bumpers....like this one. So i think its look is great.....maybe just not original. 23 K is VERY doubtful and should only be take at face value if VERY well documented....like service receipts spanning 40 years. Position of the shoulder belts will also give evidence of year.

Triple side draft webers are cool! But not original!
 
It's a 72 so the bumpers are correct and close to body, all US E9's got the DOT side markers regardless of year. Many removed the markers when repainting, this has a pinstripe which has been added. '74 was frst year for big bumpers. Triples are not original but were added by tuners in the day and by others since the get go.

There are some really nice cars for sale on the forum for about half the price. Save your money. A friend, the ORIGINAL OWNER, just sold his 72 3.0 for $25k. The car was as original as you could get. Yes, it probably could use $10 or $15k to tidy it up, but that would put it pretty close or equal to the $76k car above.

For those who want originality this was the car.

Totally agree..... it seems prices have been coming down slightly with a little more motivated sellers..... just the vibe I'm getting on the market on a whole.

25K is the price for a driving full project car with many imperfections, and a lot of work to do.
This Chamonix one is absolutely one of the best i've ever seen! Look to the bodyshell, underneath....
Perfectly clean original and no signs of any rust!
The carbs are easy to exchange, and maybe some things more....but hey...peanuts!!
You can restore a car for any price, but you can never bring it back to the originality this car has

It really wonders me that the car isn't sold already!
This is a one of a kind, and nearly never to find.....

Prices (or shall I say buyers) are down. There was a surplus of very nice coupes for sale this summer. Many are still for sale. A majority of these $30K plus cars have been on the market for a few months. The exceptions are cars where the seller flexed a lot due to need to sell.

I tend to agree that originality is not something that can be resurrected again. Six months ago this price would not have been argued against as the going rate but recent prices have just softened as we head for the uncertainty of the election and into winter where storage becomes a premium (seemingly, given the cyclical decline in values at this time). It looks like it met someone's needs because it is no longer available.

I'm glad you are an enthusiast and are an up to the minute market expert on the market. Welcome to the board. That kind of wisdom will be cherished here. Note the Rare, Unobtanium decal on the rear window: "CS Register" I have only seen one other, on the passenger side rear window of my coupe. Thanks to Art Wegweiser,
editor and chief instigator of the Register or was it Registry? Never can remember which it was first. He loved to rile up the members with his left-wing politics. He would certainly have a few choice words in this unusual political season.
