ive never been happy with the oem boxy air filter, but have resisted an aftermarket filter that drew air from the engine compartment. happily i found a k&n filter that has a cold air intake, and fits surprisingly well in our cars. here is the one i bought, 100 bucks on amazon.com : http://www.amazon.com/RC-5052AB-Uni..._5?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1298913901&sr=1-5.

i also ordered the universal mounting kit, and you can see from the pics that it mounts beautifully on the existing air filter mount.

an added bonus is my fi car sounds almost like a carborated car again, and oh ive missed that sound! :)

hey pamp,
cant remember if your car is fi or carb, but if fi, its worth the 100 bucks just for the sound - plus imo improves the look under the hood.

Engine Bay

Alan,
It is a pleasure to track your posts, always up to something!
I still cling to my D-jet roots and believe I have the best tune I can achieve with this set up.
I did a refurb of the stock box, powder coat as well as other pieces when I did an engine bay detail show. Too many items to mention unless asked. Let me see if I can get up some "before" and "after" shots.
You have put so much time, effort, and $$ into your ride! A real beauty to be admired...so glad I could be of help through the years and contribute to some of my ideas to your outstanding coupe. Winter in the great Northwest, quite a bit of shop time... BTW, where did you find your radiator shroud bits?

OK...off to FedEx to ship some wheel parts for the BMW art car project. If you or anyone else on the forum have anything in the way of left over parts you would like to contribute to Michael for his project...he would be jazzed.

Alan,
Does the filter require the spray?? or does it use the dry filter?
...I had the K&N on my 2002 and liked it except for the spray

back at cha

your engine looks sweet! nice work, and thnks for the kind words.

fan shroud from coupeking.

what about your shock-tower-bar-thing. did that make a noticeable difference? what make/model number? and did it fit without any mods?

Personally, have always love the looks of the factory D-jet airbox and less so with the L-jet units (on my car now). I've longed to somehow retrofit the L-jet box and AFM into the D-jet air box and make them look absolutely (mostly) stock.

The bar

The strut brace is a limited edition piece done by Andi aka "orangener" I was fortunate to score this when he did his limited run for forum members. Powder coat, the cross bar, and etching was my own work. If there is interest, maybe Andi would consider another run of this well engineered piece. BTW Bert, thank you for all your help and advise through the years as well. Couldn't have gotten this far without you. I dig the look of the original airbox as well, once restored. Did it in gloss on account of abuse in the future will get it back to "semi"

Hi Guys, just a follow up to see how this set-up is working a few years down the track and whether Alan ( or anyone else ) that installed this system has had any "issues " with it ? ... the engine bay pictures Alan posted at the time look great IMHO

Cheers, Simon

strut brace

Hi Guys,

I have a batch of the front tower strut braces that are Alpina replicas and are Identical to those in the pictures, rear ones too if you need them,

Also, if you are considering using an airbox on your triple carbs, I have cast alloy airboxs with cast lettering plus inlet elbows to the airbox and carb manifolds to the block.

thanks

Mark (UK)

I have one of Marks rear braces and it is fantastic quality. I have also seen the other parts in the flesh - they are first class too.

Hey Mark can you post a photo of the rear brace with pricing?

Thanks
