I went with Dynamat first, then layers of felt cut to fit the various depressions in the foot wells then more felt to make a smoother surface, all glued together and firmly held down for a day or so. For the transmission tunnel and the sills to reduce the bumps from the wiring loom etc I used stiff card from the trim shop, cut to fit and glued again to the felt. Finally plenty of glue on the back of the carpet itself ( I needed to trace a wire for the antenna later and it came apart and went back together fine) I found that the felt could be pulled apart to give half thickness where needed, and the card gave much smoother lines.
