This is Alan's car. He listed here first and we subsequently linked to various listing for the past few months. The market has proven that it's tough to sell a $80K+ car privately.
 
There are at least three for sale here locally at the moment, all autos and all would need a ton of work to bring them anywhere near to the standard of this one, priced between A$50k to A$70k
I wouldn't let mine go at under a five figure offer, it's not a csl but given what they are worth in my eyes, mine is at least a third as good.

Yes, that coupe is exactly how I dream my car to be (only in black/black): 3.5L/ 5-speed, nice stereo, etc.

Gorgeous car. Happy to see them going for this kind of $$$. If Alan's on here I'd love to know where the wood shift knob came from. I, too, have the Carl Nelson 5-speed conversion, currently with a press-on leather knob. Did you change the linkage to get the older screw-on type shaft?

It did not sell on eBay - several listings at $85k and a few follow up listings at various starting prices. No bids at $70k but there was clearly a higher reserve so not much point in bidding. Who knows what it went for - I would guess in the 70's but you never know. The seller was patient and may have got the money he wanted.
 
hello gents, thnks again for all the good words - car did not sell for full price of $85k, but close. i think the new owner is on the forum so out of respect for him will let him give actual purchase price if he chooses.

if my selling experience is representative, you do need to be patient to sell in this price range at this time - i got a lot of 'i can get one that looks almost as nice for $40k, why would i pay $85k?'

If I may, Alan- exactly right about being patient with the price. It's all about the condition and the cleanliness and the care taken in the rebuild or maintenance. People who are willing to pay a little more for the right car, if they are knowledgable, will always do better than those looking for a bargain. You can get a "bargain" on a Nissan Altima, but I'm thinking not so much on an e9..unless you want to crawl under it for a year and therein lies the negation of the bargain :-)

Speak for yourself Peter. Buying a car that's all fixed up leaves precious little to do except drive it.
Not a bad thing to be sure, but for some of us, it's the journey not the destination, as it were.
I like taking something that's in need of repair and bringing it up to spec myself. Paying someone else to have that fun is counter to my wants and tips the balance sheet away from 'a good deal'. There is a profound satisfaction in a job well done that you can also drive.

Ian, if you want something in need of repair to bring up to spec so you can drive it I have an old girlfriend for you- very little rust :) Still not sure it's a bargain :)

Depends on if the old girlfriend is on two or four.
I got married the day after Thanksgiving, so the two legged ones are right out.

I was hoping to attend on Saturday, but it was going to be be the last nice day for quite a while and we had plans to make a day of it.

I'm going to be diving into the E9 shortly. I am hoping to make it to The Vintage 2017 but wasn't sure I could pull it off but I just got a hell of a shot in the arm.
I've just had a garage-full of tooling and paint supplies fall into my lap. I'll have some awesome power tools and paints that weren't in the budget before. That should make me more productive and/or add to the fun of things.
