Anyone used Leatherique to recolor their? The leather on mine is so faded it no longer matches the vinyl door panels, and is starting to wear off the drivers seat.

But first a story about the leather. About 15 yrs ago I had the coupe at a friend's up to Sugarloaf in Maine. A neighbor stopped by and was admiring the car. I mentioned I really wanted to refinish in new leather. So he asked me how many hides I needed!!!

Turns out he was a VP at a tannery that produced hundreds of hides a day. He sent me a few swatches so I could select the right color, and then he shipped me a big package of beautiful hides.

That winter I had the rear seats refinished, as well as some front Recaros I had lying around.

Now this leather isn't automotive leather, rather it's the type used for ladies high end handbags such as Louis Vitton. It's more subtle and except for the color fade has worn little over 15 years.

So any recommendations?
 
My experience with Leatherique products has generally been good. I cleaned, rejuvenated and dyed (actually more like painted) everything. Most of the work is in the prep. The trickiest part is applying the color without leaving brush marks. The blue color I used was a perfect match. It also helps to have the entire interior out of the car as it is messy.

Absolutely +1 for Leatherique. Aside from sponsoring Southeast Sharkfest for the past 7 years, I have used their product to redye the entire interior of my e24. I have never used their filler and you do have to be careful not to apply in huge quantities at once, but from what you're describing, you don't need that as much as the dye.

I wish I had pictures from when it was done, but I will say that George (owner of Leatherique) used my car as a demo vehicle a few years ago and sold a LOT of product that day.

Additionally, I use solely Leatherique Pristine Clean and Leather Rejuvinator on my e39 M5 with extended leather interior. 103k miles and still has that new leather smell.

i used leatherique on my black e30 m3 interior - not a color change, but a redye. i used acetone to strip as much off of the seats as i could, lightly sanded the seats ... cleaned them really well ... and then sprayed the dye on - all of the trim was off of the seats.

if your leather is stiff, use the rejuvinator to soften the leather before starting. put the stuff on liberally, then cover with big trash bags and sit in the sun on a hot day - it will bake the rejuvinator in and it will soften the leather. then clean them up with the pristine clean. then onto the dye process.

I love leatherique. Been using it for years. It works. Also is great for your spouse's hands to soften them up when they have to rub "sensitive areas". Like your car seat. What did you think I meant? ;-) (you were right)
 
So does she use the "Prestine Clean" or the "Rejuvinator?" :p
