If you feel the need to do anything to the E9 at all, that certainly is good way to go. Tastefully done, obviously expertly executed and somehow along the line of breeding (with the M5 engine basically a younger relative of the M30). Also technically close to what the racing E9ers used (4valve head on an M30). Probably very usable as well.

Still, my dream garage would have a very original 3.0Csi for touring and an non-city pack very original CSL for fun. Would probably turn out to be the same cost as such a conversion.

With the exception of the wheels and the airdam I don't mind the appearance, but then, with the exception of those two things it's essentially stock. = )

Black certainly looks great on that E9 body.

I didn't read the entire article, and while I might not disagree that an E9's rear end is "as strong as a 7 series", I would hope that where the rear end meets the body has been upgraded as we all know what even stock power will do to that mount point over time.
