The car I purchased has stock wheels for a 71 but Im looking for something a little more stylish for day use and will keep these for resale. The whole wheel size/offset issue is a mystery to me. Can someone help me understand what my options are?

Look for wheels with an offset of ET11, 5 bolt, think they are 5x120. Wheels from 70s, 80s & some 90s 5,6 & 7 series will work. 14", 15" & 16" are the proper sizes for +1 & +2, which is the most one reaonably wants on these cars.

I have a set of 14 inch BBS Mahles I'm willing to sell for $500, recently restored to BMW silver with a coat of clear. Attached pic is them on Athena before restoration.

Hello Bill,
The 'correct' offset will depend on the width of the rim. The diameter can also effect the clearance to the struts and fender. Other than increasing the style factor, you might also consider changes to the ride feel and tire availability.

The easiest thing to do might be to find the style you like, then search the forum or post the relevant info (and photos). Someone on the board probably has experience with that particular wheel or at least can comment on the fitment. Keep in mind that what is ok for one car may rub on another - I have cut up tires using the same wheels as others here use without problems. Good luck!

I had a set of BMW 2-piece style 5's in 17x8 with 215/46/17 in the fronts so it would clear the struts. Man I love how they look on our E9's. I get tons of compliments on how they look.

David, your car looks great!

+1 on the Style 5s. I've had them on my coupe for 7 years and finally found a rare set of the staggered 17s last year.

I'm going to be selling a set of 17x8 Style 5s off of our wagon. If anyone is interested, let me know.

Vince

Andrews,
What is the offset (ET) of your 14" Mahle?
I have been looking at a set locally here but not sure if the ET may be correct for our coupes

What width is the rear wheel on your car. I'm having a set of BBS wheels made up for my CSL. I'm going 8J at the front and was debating on 9 or 10J (preferably) at the rear.
