Hey guys,

I recently purchased a '71 2800 CS that's in good running condition, but still needs some mechanical work done to get it where I want it. I'm looking for a good mechanic that knows coupes in the Los Angeles area, the closer to the South Bay (Redondo Beach, Torrance, Hermosa and Manhattan Beach) the better.

I've been taking my wife's late model 3 series to South Bay Autohaus for several years and Qais has always done a fantastic job at a reasonable price. His shop has no problem working on E9s but I'm not sure they're as familiar with them as some other mechanics in the area.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Welcome to the madness. I am on the other end of America, so can't directly address your question, but I would encourage you to start showing up where ever the e9 faithful in your area congregate in order to get to know the group out there. I met several of them recently and they are both friendly and knowledgeable.

A good place to begin would be So Cal Vintage BMW - see" http://www.socalvintagebmw.com/ They organize a number of events each year. Next major gathering is the show on Saturday, October 8 at Woodley Park in Van Nuys.

Thanks Jay and Ohmess. I feel like the madness has already begun.

I'm looking forward to joining the e9 community in Southern Cal and will start checking out the So Cal Vintage BMW events. My coupe is not in the CS Registry yet so I'll update that and post it with some pics soon.

Thanks for the welcome.

If you want something closer than that, both in time and distance, there is the Cars n Coffee up the hill in PV. First Saturday of the month. That means this coming Saturday. In the parking lot of the Peninsula center.

As far as mechanic, Coupeking is down in Harbor city.

CoupeKing is more of a restorer than mechanic, but they've definitely helped with some mechanical issues on my coupe, which they restored a few years ago.

For regular service I take the coupe to Avus Autosports in Glendale--Reuben is a old school BMW tech who still knows how to tune a carb.(I know Glendale's not exactly close to the South Bay!)

Welcome!

Hi - I've used GT International near Olympic and Barrington for routine work on my Coupe and Z8. I've been happy with John's service.

+1 for GT I used to sell parts to John and his dad back in the early 80s while working at Zipper BMW. John is very knowledgeable and back in the day a decent racer.. I remember drooling over a Sports racer I saw in their shop that John was racing at the time.

Thanks all for the suggestions and insight.

Bo - I was out of town for the last cars n coffee in PV but will do my best to make the next one. Appreciate the heads up.

Tyler and Viphoto - GT Int sounds like a good mechanic. I'll check them out after I give my mechanic first crack at some of the routine work.

Going to post pics and get my coupe on the registry in the next week or so. Thanks for the welcome and help!

Please send me a PM. I am a Coupe specialist. I am in Long Beach.

Vern has replaced my CV joints and differential, rebuilt my shifter along with Megasquirt work. Solid work...good guy. BOB

Vern's a solid option

And the only known Eskimo e9 specialist in this hemisphere!
A wonderful friend.

Thanks all! Sounds like a great option for mechanical work.

Vern - I'm doing some work on the coupe this weekend and will touch base next week. Appreciate you reaching out.
