I have just finished restoring a 70 E9 but do not like the side view
posture of the car. It's just too nose high. I removed the one inch
spacer and installed camber plates to correct tire tilt but the
fender lip is still three inches above the tire.

Has anyone replaced the springs with shorter version or cut one
circle off. If so, which spring did you use (Part # would help).
I have heard that the E12 spring is shorter than the E9. Is that true.
Thanks.

I lowered my car at the front with lowering springs from Jaymic . I'm not a fan of chopping off a coil because the spring doesn't make proper contact with the rubber seat, its a very rough way and in my opinion unsafe way of doing things. If you pay someone to cut the spring and flatten it properly and then re temper it this is ok but I doubt you will save that much over the cost of buying a proven product.

Call Carl at La Jolla Ind. He sells a special springs sets for the e9 that will lower the front end to the right ride height. I had your same problem. I had his springs installed and the car ride height is just right. It much more balance with the rear ride height.

My car also has the Carl Nelson springs (Tony/Velocewest installed them before I bought the car from him). Tony also told me the car has the Bilstein Sport shocks...
I've since installed 16" wheels (7" wide with offset ET16) running 205/55 tires (Falken FK-452).

The only hitch I have had -
I had thought the tires fit without issue (and had 1000 miles to show for that) but had an episode now that had the left fender rub a couple of times.

So - As of last week, I have rolled the fenders and that should take care of it.

But - Yes....
I do like the spring/shock combo... VERY nice.

coupe

when I sold my coupe, the owner didn't like how low it was and put carl nelsons set up on it, I thought it made the car look to high but whatever, call up Nate Smiths Optimal auto in santa cruz and ask him about PJs old suspension parts, say you are interested in buying it and if he will contact to new owner. He also replaced the sways front and rear. My car was set up to carve the La canyons . It was sweet

Good Luck

I just checked with Carl last week, unfortunately the springs aren't in stock.
