Can anyone tell me how to tell if an E9 diff is limited slip or not by looking at it from the outside? Also, is there a way to tell what amount of lock up it has?
Are there any practical checks to determine a diffs state of wear with it on a bench?
Lastly does a diff from any E9 fit any other E9 or are there differences?
Thanks

Locking diffs generally have an S stamped on passenger side of case with the ratio such as 38/11 which is a 3.45 ratio. All e9 side loader diffs are interchangeable. Can't answer your other questions.

Thanks

Thanks to all for their help. I was told by a former owner that he had one, but I want to be sure that it really is an LSD. Especially as he told me that all Coupes had them, which they don't.

Just hold one output flange and try to turn the other. If it doesn't turn, it's LSD

Hi all

I thought a Limited slip diff would require a certain (depending on the design) speed difference at wheels to lock up the diff, and it would act as a regular diff at normal cornering. You would have to turn the free flange really fast I guess.
Am I wrong?

cheers
