Has anyone made or found a guide to rebuild/refresh an m30 engine? I can't find anything. I'm new to engines and would like to have a reference. Like the order in which to remove all the bolt on and such. Thanks

Here is a picture of the guide most folks use. It's relatively straight forward... ;-)
Putting jokes on a side for a moment there are books for cars which were equipped with M30. It was several models so your choice might start with the period correct.
No doubt BMW genuine service manual is recommended.
There is also a lot of topics about different aspects of M30 here (an not only). Invest your time and feel free to explore.

The blue binder BMW CS service manuals includes just about everything you need to rebuild an M30. My wife and I rebuilt the engine in our CS. We sent the block and head to a machine shop. The only tricky part is that the upper timing chain cover needs to be bolted to the cylinder head if the surface is cut.
The M30 was introduced on the 2800/2800CS and is an M30b28. The 3.0CS is an M30b30, it is BMW’s nomenclature with the ‘b‘ denoting displacement and was built for 27 years in the following e12, e23, e24, e28, e32, e34 up 3.5 liters.
M30b30, carbs or injection make no difference, BMW didn’t make a unique motor for a CSi.
B- stands for German das Benzin
D - for Diesel
For example M21D24 used in E30 (324d/324td with turbo) and E28 or (other example) M47D30 used in E60 3.0 turbo Diesel
I know Diesels are not very popular in US and it's OK (not being a fan either ;-) ).
