So I finally heard back from the mechanic - he said he did the test as described on the cold start injector and no change. He wants to try the borrowed MPS.

I know this thread is a couple of years old but it seems to have ended in success but with no resolution provided. I have an E9 with similar issues and would love to hear what fixed the issue.
