Just thought I would post this, one of our members ordered a Max Jack and had it shipped to me since I have a fork-truck and a way to get it to him in downtown Austin. There was a savings on delivery since we had the fork-truck and I can put it on my car trailer and take it where it needs to go. The total weight is approx. 860 lbs, we will dismantle the packaging on the trailer and then we should be able to use a dolly to put it in place. Just in case anyone is considering getting one I thought I would post the information, maybe we can do a video on the set-up :-) You can see it on the fork truck next to the 2002 Baur.

I did all the suspension on my Coupe with the help of MaxJax. I sit on a stool instead of standing which puts everything at eye level. I intend to install the engine from underneath using the MaxJax

Baur

Hi Charlie,

I'm doing a thorough inspection on the Baur for a friend. He wants to give it to his daughter but it's been sitting for 20 years so it needs allot of work. He does have all the original replacement sheet metal from BMW and the car is pretty solid. It has a Tii engine in it but the FI needs work. I'll post some pictures in the "off-topic" area when I start ripping into it for anyone who is interested-

Hmm...Baur, Tii engine is it the ex-Ed Ullom Cabrio that sold two years ago for about $10K?

What is the spacing distance between the two uprights and how did you determine it?

I'm thinking about getting one to get one for two shops I have and move them back and forth as necessary.

i was wondering the same question. i could mount one close to the wall, but the question is how far the other one would be away + whether it will get in the way of my wife's car

Here is the webpage from the maker:
http://www.dannmar.com/dannmar-products/two-post-lifts/maxjax.asp

They are currently on sale on Costco.com if you are a member till December 20th. If you aren't a member, the $300 savings on this purchase alone will pay for your membership several times over. We always get money back over the cost of our membership with the Executive Membership, even with just the two of us buying.

Non-members can purchase from Costco’s website, Costco.com, at any time. There is a downside, however:

“Non-members will be charged a 5% surcharge over the member’s posted product prices (except for prescription drugs).”

I have had mine for about 5 years now. It works great and I use it all the time. Too many cars might have something to do with it. I have the posts spaced 97" apart (measured between inside face of vertical posts). The center of the front wheel is 46" from the center of the posts (you want to load the arms equally). I would not go any further apart on the posts because the rear arms just barely reach the rear suspension bushing lift points. On my other cars (Audis & Volvo the lift points are closer to the post). Definitely consider what other cars you might want to lift when locating the posts fore/aft in the garage.

up and away...

Sven, super bit of information there. Ian and I will take multiple measurements and definitely take some video :-)

Re: the Baur, I am not sure where it originated but I know it's been in my friends garage for right around 20 years if not more. So it was not for sale by anyone else for at least that amount of time. It will be fun to do this one :-)

Members on this forum convinced me to xray my concrete (post tension slab) so I could get maxjax installed. Since then I have added 2 additional mounting set ups. Just get some additional anchors from amazon. Sh!tload of drilling though!!!

1. @ 106" width for the CS in bay 3 of garage
2. @ 120" width for wider cars in bay 3 ... not sure if yellow arms will extend to CS jack points in this config
3. @110" in bay 2 ... in case I need to get away from the wall in bay 3 you see in the photos

I have quickjacks as well ... great for the track but not great for the E9 body. They just arent long enough to hit the proper jack points.

Just to clarify, the dimensions I gave earlier are not measuring the same thing as eludvigs. I am assuming eludvigs dimensions are between the centerlines of the outer row of 3 bolt holes in the slab. If so, my equivalent is 112.5"

Dammit, ya had me until.... "Delivery is not available to ****** ****, ******, or Hawaii." on the bottom of the Costco specifications page.

Still open to Christmas suggestions. I guess my NAPA jackstands and Costco jack will have to last a while longer. Well, good exercise anyway.

Actually my measurements are from the lines behind the bolt holes which indicate where the back of the maxjax plate will land ... the instructions measure from back of plate to back of plate. (see attached)

I was limited to these dimensions due to the post tension slab. If I go an inch less or more I may risk hitting a cable thats sitting at 30,000psi. Major pucker factor when drilling holes.

So again ... the measurements I provided are done the way the instructions indicate.

Looks like those dimensions are only "typical" and you need to figure out the width based on the distance between the jack points on the car, reach of the lift arms, and what cars you'd want to lift. The video doesn't actually show that the arms are telescopic but looking at them they appear to be, within limits.

I'd want the posts as close to the car as possible, but I have limited width in my garage. I don't think opening the doors will be possible once lifted, except to a very limited extent.

Correct ... the tightest dimension is what I use. Can open the doors just enough to squeeze in/out. This all depends on waistlines. :)
