Like it says my high tone horn is broken. It sounds so much better in German though doesn't it?

I know they are relatively cheap but they may also be easily repairable so has someone fixed their own tooter. And before I pull it apart is something going to go SPROING followed by the words "where did that go?".

Before you take it apart...

...give it a couple of light taps with a hammer in the middle. If that doesn't do it, turn the tone adjustment screw out a little and/or in a little and try it.

If that doesn't work, take it apart (nothing goes sproing thankfully) and look for a broken wire. Repair it if there is a broken one, then clean and reassemble.

They are fairly bullet proof and can usually be made to work again.

Bitte schön herr Gazz. Lassen Sie mich das Ergebnis wissen.

I have tapped it. Had a look inside and nothing seems to be amiss, though what appear to be 3 magnets are no longer magnetic. Do they may magnetise under current?
There is no tone adjustment screw, at least not on the outside. Will have to wait till I get my car back from the auto sparky to test it.
If it doesn't work I may have to provide the high tone myself, of course harmonising with the niedrigtonhorn. This tends to happen during emergencies anyway.

This is the tief horn, but the two are identical. The tone adjustment screw is indicated by the arrow. Often these are either factory covered with some soft material that has to be dug out, or years of dirt/grease.

You can test before you get the car back with any 12V battery and a couple of short pieces of wire.

The magnets are electromagnets.

Ah, tieftonhorn. Mine, where you have indicated, is smooth filled with a hard set resin. If your other recommended measures fail to activate the sound I'll dig out the resin to see if the adjustment screw is the problem, and also out of curiosity to hear how the pitch varies.
I'll test it when I next visit the car and let you know what happens. Danke.

Now "tooter" is a euphemism??? I can't keep up with them all. Anyway, in Australia Cialis is pronounced "unnecessary".

Funny way to pronounce it, but then again you guys say "Fosters" for beer.
I should also point out that cialis is in the Starship Enterprise universal translator

do you have the earth on the correct terminal?
Woodys said is was kaput, not me. I have done what Dick said to do but have yet to take it back to Woodys to test. I'm going tomorrow to check on progress. You know, I think that project cars get left till last in a busy shop. 3, going on 4 weeks just to tidy up the electrics?

So, do you think your horn works better than mine?

The steel parts are indeed not magnetic, they are just pulled and released by the spools below.

Enclosed pics of my horn, that did work but just got a clean up.

Fosters...really.. Australian budweiser.

Universal translator says the same................but growing up in NY, showing up at a party with that or Coors was cool since they were so hard to come by. Spolied by living near Tree House Brewery!

Sorry to bust a myth but Aussies don't really drink Fosters, it's an export beer. You very rarely see it offered in a pub, bar or restaurant here. We send it to you and keep the good stuff for ourselves.

It's a marvel of modern industry how they get the kangaroos to pee in the bottles :D
