Can anyone fill in the blanks on the four digit model codes below? I will update the FAQ VIN thread if I can confirm.

I can’t put any time into this today or tomorrow, but I can offer some tips. You can plug the model into realoem to get the codes. I did that for a march 74 build 3.0csiL. That gives me 7071, which isn’t listed above. I then type “BMW CSL 7071” into the google, and I get more CSL model codes from(such as 3451) sites like this:

If you want to see all the model codes on realoem, click on a part that is shared across all e9’s. Then when you go to the section to see what it fits, it shows all e9’s with their respective model code. One can infer which are the mode codes starting with 7 based on the VIN range starting with 4...

But it sometimes won’t return RHD results. I don’t know if early CSiL had a unique Model code.

Chris,, in respect of RHD csi's , it seems ( per realoem ) that prior to 10/1973, all csi's were "euro" ie LHD....feb/1972 code was 3442 and up to Sept /1973 was 7031 . From 10/1973 onwards the factory produced RHD was available with code 7032 .

Thanks, corrections made. I think everything is correct now.
Hi Chris

Great work and thank you for putting such effort into this.

One thing I would point out on the factory race cars needs a little correcting, They start at 2276000 and end at 2275580.

I know its counter intuitive as they in fact go backwards, but that is how BMW did it in the day.

Thanks and apologies for being a geek :)

Pete

Did I mess it up again? The model code was on a worksheet I didn’t use for the vin sheet In the FAQ which is correct. 2276000-2275980
