Have been toying with the idea of upgrading or swapping my stock engine 3.0cs coupe..it has the original zeniths. It starts up right away all the time and runs very very smooth..but it sure is lacking in the power torque department..The wheels are 16 inch, the suspension is all stock as well so basically were talking about a very smooth touring car that is not very fast. It also has the 5 speed tranny...To be honest unless I'm passing a car ..its not a very exciting car to drive.. O k maybe I'm being a bit to harsh.
The other day while on a 2 lane highway up on some country roads 1 hour outside of Montreal I was cruising at a steady 80 miles. 8) I then pulled up behind A Jeep Cherokee I waited for awhile he didn't pull out of the fast lane so I pass him on the right and slide back into the left lane and continue accelerating, now the guy I just passed is accelerating about 3 feet away from my rear end !! So not wanting to play this game and with the coupe not having the kind of power to pull away from this jerk I scoot over to the right.
The idiot passes me laughs and then slows right back down again remaining in the fast lane !! Here we go again I pass him on the right again scoot over to left in front of him again and he repeats the same stupidity as before..sticking a couple of feet away from the rear of my coupe !! Err anyway we exchanged a few words showed each other a few fingers and went our separate ways.
I couldn't help thinking had I a more powerful car or motor I would have simply pulled away from this jerk
In a perfect world or in Europe the idiot would have just drove in the slow lane and left the passing lane free..and we could have avoided this ridiculous confrontation..but that never happens here so.....
I,m thinking going the 3.5 liter root..was just wondering for those who have done the swap ..Big difference in power torque ,highway passing power.
Also was suggested by mechanic friend..he will do the work at my place ..larger cam, triple weber, bigger exhaust...will those be too drastic and change the driving characteristics of the car too much ?Or will it be a real hoot to drive ? I don't want a rally car I already have a 2002...If that's too much I 'll consider going with the 3.5 injected..Basically what I'm after is highway accelerating and passing power . My coupe right now for my driving style is under powered. highway passing right now consists of a too long gathering of speed and distance and its a 50/50 between I'll make the pass or I'll have to brake at the last second because I don't have the speed or the distance.
i was looking at Daico 35 triple weber set up in the photo gallery, looks sweet. wondering how usable this set up would be for the street?
One last question..is it normal that my tii .. smokes the coupe ? :o
Cheers
