My journey

Yep, space. But it’s way past my bed time. A little restless tonight...probably because of hearing that you sold her Mike...:)

yep dynamic people doing DYMAMIC THINGS
super enjoyed watching the wonderful and interesting story of the
excellent rebuild and restoration and the pre-start video of the engine turning over with the oil to check it all out
really coool.

Yes, definitely one of the best coupes I have seen. I hope the new owner continuous to bring it to shows and events. I'm looking forward to seeing your next one....

Beautiful car, interior is very unique & stunning!
That car renovation was made with love & care - i think almost every person that followed your thread, could feel it.

Really sad day Mike - someone "bought" part of your heart & soul.
Good Luck!

Mike, I hope the lucky bastid who got your coupe appreciates the work, time, love and camaraderie that went into that restoration!
You and HBChris have taught me a whole lot about how to make a coupe look wonderful.
I suspect you have enough left over E9 parts to build another coupe or at least restore one to a close facsimile of the beauty you just let go.
All the best

my guess is that with the current prices of excellent parts he could sell the parts and buy a finished coupe to a reasonable standard.

If you have to sell this might not be a bad time. Feels like a bubble to me, slightly... Maybe you'll own it again in the future... I'm sure you discussed it with the new owner. ;)

Hi Mike -- I was in Lime Rock mode when this hit and am therefore late to the party.

There are seasons to life and when the seasons change we have to change with them. I will never forget the unveiling of your car, with Peter and I crawling around under and within your car in amazement at the attention to every little detail. The steaks you cooked for our group at the Zen Retreat were also a good memory, as was visiting your shop the following year. I hope you will remain a part of our little group, and that we get to hang out again in the future.

You were nice enough to sell me your excellent, non-staggered set of Alpinas, for under market value, in the middle of the economic meltdown. I was selling NOS 2002 parts stash to help with our house payment, since nobody was buying any furniture then,....and in truth, probably shouldn't have been buying yours...but you obviously know passion better than most, and understood mine for the wheels. And cut me some slack during a dark time. Thanks.

This makes me so happy to read. Not that you were having a rough time (as many of us were) but that you are happy with our transaction. Please let me know if you still have any 02 parts and thank you for the kind words.

Thank you to everyone for the kind words. In the end it came down to simple numbers that made sense and a buyer that has a beautiful collection and promised to enjoy and care for my coupe. I will miss her, I already do; but after 10 years of ownership i can’t say I didn’t enjoy her. Next month would make 10 years of ownership. I’ve had a blast with her and can’t say I’ve done it to this degree with any other car.

Incredible experience, lustful if you will. Wonderful friendships, and an amazing community.

You’re not rid of me!!! Not that easily!!!

Mike, I was honored to be at your car's unveiling just before the 2016 Monterey weekend. I still recall the soundtrack Paul played when it was time for the garage door to open. And then we all poured around your car to marvel at detail I had never seen before in a coupe restoration. Seeing you take first place at Legends was also very special and you made us all proud of what our Coupes could represent. More importantly, you are a knowledgable, friendly and worthy spokesperson for our exclusive car and I enjoyed getting to know you during that long week we shared. Best of luck in your automotive adventures going forward and I hope you will keep us posted.

Mike, both Graeme and I wish you the best, and thank you for the continued support you have given us. We all look forward to learning of your next “adventure”. Your car set a standard that is incredibly hard to match, but speaks to your dedication and attention to detail. Well done. G&T.

I am glad to have had the privilege of riding in that beautiful car during the California Targa this year.
For all intents and purposes it was a brand new car but better than the manufacturer would have made it.

Great talking to you at the BAT cookout. I had no idea a sale was imminent! I had been tempted to ask when I was with you what it would take to release the coupe from your grasp...
But getting into a house in your area is very important. If the Monterey peninsula were not so far from friends and family and my wife would go for it, I might be moving to Carmel Valley tomorrow.
Great weather and fantastic driving roads. Taking Carmel Valley road east to Greenfield (?) was something we did in the Cal Mille in 2016. Incredible. Route 25 as well.
I know you can find another coupe to restore, and I know you have a stack of very nice spare parts.

Say it ain't so Mike, actually, although it is sad there is a bright spot to the story in that I think all of us have learned exactly what it takes to make a 100 point e9, it's not just money and time, it takes friends, critics, judges, admirers, and a supportive group of family. It also really requires an awesome forum like this and so the next one may not be an e9, it might be an M1 or something else special and you have held the bar extremely high for all of us to aim for in terms of tenacity, patience, generosity and comradeship. I personally have had the pleasure of being close to you during the maiden voyage as well as a few rides to and from the shop- thanks for everything you have and will continue to bring- to the forum.

Also, may I suggest a rather elaborate party at the new residence to celebrate?? :-)
