My Karmann TAG on the inside of the door is missing! But stamped in the A post behind the TAG is 7098.
Any ideas?

My theory is that it is a sequential build number. It could be the 7098th 3.0CS/CSI or 7098th CSI. What model do you have and do you have the build date.

I have seen this on other coupes.

For what it's worth , my Csi build June 1972 features number 6735 with VIN 2262491.

What's your VIN Dave?

Texas A & M grad of 1979 (well, I assume that is 79aggie!!!),

I didn't have a build date for my car, but when I entered the VIN in realoem.com, it came up with all the info needed to get to the correct parts, and stated a build date of May 1974.

Gig'em and Wahoo too! My wife has me in these chains of love her in VA! Otherwise I would be in deep East Texas (Tyler or College Station)! Va is beautiful state, but it ain't Texas...where I belong.

Yea, REALOEM comes up as an 80something e30.

VIN 225 0 227

We hope, this is helpful for you.
