Mystery numbers

So I emailed BMW archives for some info on my car and found out that it was built on 29/03/73 and delivered to Australia on 15/05/73 yet the compliance plate fixed to car ( an Australian requirement) gives a date affixed of 1/73 ?!? How can this be?

On US coupes the foil sticker on the drivers door with the build month/year can be one or two months off. Do you have a photo of the plate?

Sounds like human error John ...for comparison , mine was made 3/74, delivered 4/74 and Oz plate is 6/74. The most important thing is that you have the original compliance plate, even if slightly erroneous ...which presumably shows your VIN for "authenticity ". Cheers, Simon
