Mystery trim piece

So I ordered the passenger rear fender beltline trim piece for my 1973 Bavaria and received a piece that almost fits perfectly but is a different shape at the very rear of the car. See picture with the ordered piece on the trunk next to the piece on the other side of the car. Any ideas what vehicle this trim piece might fit? Is this for an E9? I am planning to return it but if anyone has the right vehicle and wants it i'll sell it for what I paid, which I think was around 70 bucks. Thanks.

If it has rubber as part of the trim it can't be e9.

Man, you guys are good. Based upon some Google searching it looks like it's on many E3s but not the 73 Bavaria. Thanks.

It looks too long to fit on any e3.

Solved! It's for a 3.3Li long wheel base model, it matches OCCoupe's Li. And also matches the 3.0s.

Looks like it's for the cars with the brightwork strip on the edge of the trunklid, which would be like Chris said. Thats also why it's a sharper edge compared to the standard ones.
