NEED HELP IDENTIFYING WHAT ENGINE I HAVE

Welcome to the forum. I believe you have an M30 B34 with an earlier style intake manifold. I have one of these in my E12 528i with 3.5L swap. Check the version of your motronic unit also. By the time of these motors the number by the starter is an engine number and no longer correlates with the VIN. If it is a B35 as suggested, I would wonder why they used the earlier manifold.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's pretty common for people to user early style manifolds along with an L-Jet throttle body to keep the period-correct look and feel.

My motronic manufactur number is 0 261 200 179

No vin. Just has DOT-R sticker. Next to it has a 89 inside the circle. Next to it 5-1.

Many of us have used the earlier manifolds and plenum for a more authentic look vs. the octopus style later manifolds.

You know it is funny that you say that about the inlet manifold because I too prefer the earlier look but question that given that the newer one has better flow. On a second note, I now wonder if my 3.5 in my E12 is a B35 or B34...

Let's be clear.....

Intake port and 2 digit number in circle.

Period

Pm me with a phone number

Don, it says 89, fifth month. With a bright flashlight you should be able to see the dual valve springs too I would think.

Well it appears to be a B35 from an e32. After reading mention of e32 as a source based on the serial I recommended that he check the motor mount for an adapter plate. Sure enough the block has a motor mount adapter on it. Along with everything listed the serial does have the "B" as Chris suggested.

You need new injectors, new harness, and check for performance chip in Ecu.
You should check for head thickness- now is the time to install a slotted cam gear if needed.
I can get you a set of brand new 206 injectors if you need them. New harness takes a couple of days. Now is also the time to check your cam- schricks are cheap in Germany now.

Hey Don,

What are your thoughts on the fire heat affecting the head, head gasket, etc? Car fires were a regular occurrence in phoenix when i lived there. One thing I know is that vehicles are completely engulfed and destroyed within minutes. I suspect that this fire was extinguished in a reasonable amount of time.

Also, Vitaliy lives near me and I still have the chassis harness from the CSI. That covers all of the peripheral wiring etc. I don't know how much this differs from the CS, and if I can physically separate the AC wiring from the rest (since I am selling the AC).

He needs the engine/lighting harness coming from the firewall around to the pass headlight
He will graft that into a b35 engine harness and his lighting/fan/horn harness

It's not the engine harness from the csi you want
Lighting harness

Markos is correct- you need the "chassis " harness
Good call good description

Found this business card inside the car, called them to get a lead on previous owner. No luck they wouldn't give out any information unfortunately :(
