Getting something new tomorrow, life is too short to always drive the same vehicles (Paul Cain's philosophy). The e30 cab will be for sale shortly. Here is a hint of my new ride. The photo is courtesy of OCCoupe!

Chris,

I'm looking forward to seeing it and getting a ride. It has been a long time since I've been in that year. Also, you'll have a lot of fun making it your own.

Chris,

way cool ... you can have fun with these too - especially with engine transplants. a friend of mine in louisiana put a 911 engine into one of these ... they used it to pull their race car. it was one mean machine.

I have a Corvair block under my porch I can mail you. Probably weighs under 30 pounds. You won't have to shower if you drive that!

Stan, yes, I have a bit of an issue with Shawn but she has been a good trooper so far. Now is the time for you to pick up a nice cab!

The bus is a 71 Bay Window, best year for the later busses, two owners, orig paint/interior so it will need some work. Scheduled to get it tomorrow, it's been a saga with the current owner. Re: Porsche motor, saw one at C&C, these are super fast!

Fun vehicle to drive! We had a '71 back in '77 when we lived by the ocean.Went to make a turn one day and the bus kept going straight, the steering shaft had rusted off the front axle!

Congrat's Chris, what an awesome aquisition.

I have a friend with a camper & a pickup style bus with a tonneau & the covering with the bows. Also has every year beetle from 1957-1976.

Nice

Love these Chris......always fancied one, just never pulled the trigger on one, well done! A friend up here in the NW also has one with a 911 engine (as rsporsche mentions below) he has left it original, just uprated the mechanicals, he seems to be smiling every time he takes it out.

Have fun

Pete

And

you can fit lots of "hippie chicks" in one of those, too bad Jerry Garcia's no longer with us, it would make a great "Tour bus"!

I had a 68 Westfalia...was the vehicle I had when I met my wife...and she is still with me. Not quite as classic as the older versions but with the lowered suspension and tinted windows and 5 spoke Enkei wheels, that van was sweeeeet. Only problem I had was there was so much front surface area that I could not pass a semi truck on the highway unless I was going downhill with my right foot firmly planted. Loved that van!!!

Cant wait to see it Chris!

I bought mine in 1975.
Lived in it on and off for 4 years.
Great hang gliding vehicle. Mine was a 1972 Westfalia. Had the pancake motor.
Totally different driving experience.
Get in, right foot to the floor and keep shifting. Could NEVER get more than 50k miles out of an engine before rebuild.
Sold it with over 250k miles. Like selling my best friend and still miss it.

The older units are very expensive now days!

Looks like fun, my Uncle in Seattle had a blue camper in the early '80s. Are you going to restore it and bring it up to your baseline of excellence?

Can't afford coupe standard of excellence but I will make it look nice and original once my mechanic gives it a clean bill of health. Parts are very affordable which helps.

In 1971 I bought a new bus while living in London. Picked it up at the factory in Hannover,
Pulled out the middle seat built a platform bed, got a camp stove and off we went on
a 6 month camping adventure. Never a bit of trouble but woefully underpowered
especially on the autobahn.
