Concerning your car, I think it may have been repainted.
On the picture of your E9 showing the karman plate, there is a chip of paint gone on the left side of the interior light switch.
unscrew the switch, there might be a different color under .

Very interesting! Will do and report back. But would they have repainted the entire engine bay and trunk area as well. This color blue is everywhere...and where the paint is slightly chiped there are no signs of any other color in regard to delamination that would suggest a repaint...but hey ya never know...again very interesting..
