New Owner of an original survivor (1974 3.0 CSA with only 35k miles)

Should I replace the transmission(manual) and bumpers while I own it and replace when ready to sell?

Bumpers go first in my not so humble, actually not at all humble opinion. Hate that expression, IMHO. Now, don't I feel better.

Swapping out the diving boards is not a modification. Actually it is a restoration to the original factory design. A design that is timeless.

Footnote: In Feb. I purchased JMinNJ's absolutely original, 1976, 78,000 mile Chaminox 2002. The day after I got home from John's with Lilli I ordered the bumpers. Transformed her!
Then, much to my delight, I discovered that euro 2002s not only had the delicate chrome bumpers but the square(actually rectangular) tail lights of the much despised American 2002s. But wait, euro 2002s from '74 through '76 have the square lights. So Lilli is now a factory original.

Does this qualify as reverse engineering?

Hmmm.

I agree. USA-anything is a factory-retrofit. Reversing those early mods are investments plus you get to own and look at it everyday; not the purists.
