I like them both, but I like the black ones are better IMO. Sine you just bought the radio, I would ask ChromeLondon to send you proper BMW e3/e9 knobs, which match all of the knobs in the car. I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer but as a high-end outfit, they should have offered you them to begin with IMO.

john,
that is a very nice radio with a lovely fascia,
i have the same fascia, and it is original as you can see in the blaupunkt catalogue from the seventies
it will be relevant to decide how are you going to install the radio, with or whithout fascia
knobs will depend on that decission

Harry,

That knob on the left is an AC knob. The radio knobs don’t have markings on them.

I wouldn’t buy more knobs. If you are inclined check with chrome london otherwise run what you have.

I do have those knobs but that is Chris’s car...

ChromeLondon supplied the silver knobs as the correct vintage spec BMW ones so I’m a little confused as to whT the difference between them is. I think that as deQ suggested I will wait and see how it all looks once I have console, gauges and radio together ( waiting on the gauges as I am having the pointers painted white as the new vdo gauges come with red pointers) the console was supplied by Christope Bier, so once it’s all together I will make a judgment call, but I am leaning towards the black knobs at the moment.

Cheers John

ChromeLondon gave you e12/e21 style knobs, the centers are much larger and dished. The pic of my Blaupunkt has the correct knobs as Markos has stated.

Ah, thanks Chris, I’ll bear that in mind if I decide to use them, although given the numerous differences between my car now and how it left the factory I think any concours judge or originality geek would have walked away in disgust long before they got to the interior....

If the one on the left is not a radio knob, why is there a plastic insert instead of a metal female screw in fitting?
Secondly what harm does it do for a member who wants a certain type of knob to have what he wants. It's not like the cost will be huge. My goodness I've seen requests for a used chrome philips head trim so that it is the same as all others. I think if my car had the stupid looking large black knows I would want the matching ones also. I was planning on giving them to him at no cost.

Because the ac knobs don’t have a metal female screw in fitting. As you can see, neither the temp or the fan speed knob will work for the radio.

Harry,

The inserts in these knobs have three different shapes and are not interchangeable. Fan, Temp and radio are different, none have set screws either. The knob with the line is most likely A/C fan. The one on the right might be for a Blaupunkt, it’s hard to see the shape. They are rectangular, half-moon and radio. Here is a Blaupunkt knob.

Markos beat me to it.

Thanks Chris. I guess I really don't know much about E9s. I never owned one.
Sorry Marks for a hasty reaction.
