New Trunk Interior Material

Has anyone purchased the trunk side panels from Chris? I thought the originals were just elephant skin glued to the inside wall of the rear fenders but the pics on his site looks like they are laminated to panel board?

I’ve been schooled! Thank you Chris. And now that you mention it, my ‘71 E3 didn’t have hardboard and the elephant skin was falling off on the sides. But IIRC my ‘76 E3 did have hard panels (hey, this was 37 y ars ago).

Ok, this is the last part that I need, I think...
Since we are reverting to pre 74 bumpers, per above, we can remove that piece, and use pre74 inserts. As I understand it, we just need to order from here http://www.cs-werk.de/produkt-kategorie/nachfertigungen-fuer-bmw-e9/ I can't seem to identify the correct pieces on this website and sent this email to the contact us person. Please let me know if you are aware of which pieces to order and/or if there are other sources. Thanks!

Looks like it is here too https://parts.bmwmonterey.com/p/BMW...xPZUNdI4aP62CQ85Ml6xvZh3xt6zMDkIaAh5AEALw_wcB

Someone sent me this source too, but not sure if these part numbers are correct for the pieces I need. Need to confirm.
I need the material to cover portions of the trunk on my 74 BMW e9. Just the part on the right covering the passenger side shock tower and the bottom covering the spare and gas tank.

ECSTuning.com panels cover the fenders/rear shock towers. They don't make 74+ USA versions.

You need to cut that triangle off to fit these

The 889 and 890 are the wheel arch covers, BMW Monterey or ECS Tuning, these may need to come from Germany unless BMW NA has some in the US. No one sells the floor boards, buy the raw material and recover them. Get the quarter panel covers fro CS-werke or may from raw material, pretty easy. Material was around $55 per meter, I think Scot told you how much to order if you go that route.

Scott,

as I already discovered, that your target is not a concours queen, I would recommend to search for an alternative vinyl material to recover the trunk panels yourself. Some appropriate material (light to middle grey coloured) will be something between 5-15 $$. You can even consider to use some dye for a refresh without the exchange of the vinyl (depends on the condition). Here're some nice imperession of a selfmade overhaul of the trunk:

http://www.bmw30cs.de/reparaturen_restauration.htm#Kofferraum2018

As you can see a good chance to keep some money in your pocket to spend it somewhere else, which would be more important for a restoration.

And please be very careful if you may end up in ordering something avail for the wheel well covers. There were some not so long ago sold from the BMW classic department, that were even close to the originals. Not for the material, but even nor for the colour. A guy in the German community reported his experience in the thread with the warnings for non fitting repro parts for the E9. Take a look here and scroll down:

I don't know if they still sell these, but it wouldn't surprise me much.
BTW: The thread starter here is the man behind cs-werk.de

Cheers

i actually bought a spare tire cover panel from a local BMW dealer here in the US a couple of years ago when the part reappeared on realoem. the thing to keep in mind is that the wood panels at the spare and gas tank are different sizes (narrower) on the '74 model due to the bumper braces. CS Werke also sells the floor boards that fit each model except the '74 US models.

Scott, if you cut the bumper braces, you will have to find a way to fit custom or pre '74 floorboards. actually the panel over the gas tank would have to be custom or modified as the gas tank filler hose is farther inboard on the '74 (so that it goes over the brace)
