New version of original steel wheels

If your car came on 14" wheels have you seen these?

The CN36 is a proper period tyre, and as far as i know the only proper classic tyre that has been made for years in this size.

Worth noting that these cars will handle a lot better on the CN36 than they will on a modern tyre carcass, because a modern tyre is developed to operate in a very different enviroment. A modern car presents its rubber to the road in a very different manner to a car like yours.

Incidentally fitting a modern tyre like a 205/55R16 will make an enormous difference to the drive of your car. The ride from a 205/55r16 will be dramatically harsher than a proper period 195/70R14 tyre like the CN36. it doesn't have the rounded side wall, and that 16" tyre will have an inch less side wall to absorb the shocks of the road.

A 55% profile modern 205 section tyre will present a dramatically more foot print to the road. The outer extremities of which will have considerably more leaverage on your steering components.

Those wheels do look cool though.

Historically it was worth looking for alternatives because there wasnt really a good 195/70R14 tyre available, but now Pirelli have made the CN36 you are laughing.

check out how cool the CN36 looks on an old BMW

Incidentally this picture was taken at my shed before we got the new delivery of Stella Bianca for pre War and Frazer Nash BMW

cn36 doesn't come in 16" coupe sizes - no 50 / 55 profiles - only 60 + 70. the only 50 / 55 profiles are the p7 - these were the tire sizes used on the early 930 porsche.

Hi

these just arent going to handle or ride as nicely on 16" wheels. I dont think people realise the difference. i have taken some fun photographs.

you can imagine what difference that makes to the steering and handling. it is a completely different beast.

I did it with the XWX as well while we are having so much fun.

the carcass structure and style almost makes more difference than the size.

70 profile tyres put less rubber on the road in relation to their section width. A Countach was only fitting 205 section tyres on the front into the 1980s.

i rode / drove a 930 on P7's down I-10 in south Louisiana to Texas at HIGHLY illegal speeds in 1978. we made 225 miles in 2 hours 5 minutes and 38 seconds ... that included a stop for gas and losing a left rear at somewhere near 150 ... so we lost some time to both of those stops.
