I do expect valve clacking but is that the amount one expects? I got a new project and getting the lay of the land....................

The BMW 3.0 CS Automatic VIN 2232460 was manufactured on June 28th, 1973 and delivered on July 16th, 1973 to the BMW dealer Kluth in Neuß, Germany. The original colour was Taiga metallic, paint code 072.

To answer your question...no you should not expect that much valve noise.
The problem with my engine is that it has an after market camshaft installed and aftermarket (febi) cam followers/rockers, I am assuming that they are not comparable with each other.

Appreciate the response. My E3 sounded similar when purchased and I tightened them up. Just wanted to make sure I didn't do so in error. E9 is next up.
