Tried to replace my windshield, but the China made XYG brand was too large and the curvature was wrong. What's the best way to source an American or German made windshield ? I live in SoCal. Should I place an order with the BMW dealer ?

Good luck with this, I bought a new screen from BMW (made in Turkey) and it was also no good, curvature was miles out.
BMW would not take it back ( our brand new OEM screen must be right sir, we think your 40 year old car is bent and out of shape ) so it ended up in the skip bin and I put the old screen back in.

My windshield is cracked. After reading the horror stories, I looked for a used windscreen. Interestingly enough it cam from CA (Alan). I now have an extra factory windscreen. I need to take a closer look, but there may be a tiny knick in the driver's line of view. I just wiped it off this morning before installing the suction cups. I hope to pull it this weekend, but it may be later next week.

@kasbatts : My windscreen/windshield ( as we say in the states) has a circular crack the size of a volleyball. Doesn't look good driving a nice coupe in that state, so my vanity causes me to drive at night. LOL

@Markos : How bad is your crack ? I might be tempted to buy yours when you pull it if nothing else materializes.

@kasbatts : My nephew owns a couple year old 335i. He was rear ended where they somehow needed to replace the roof ( or a portion of it ). The dealer had 8 times imported the piece from Deutschland, but each time the piece was bent during shipping. My nephew and the BMW dealer decided to install the 8th piece since it was the "least damaged" during shipment.( Cant blame that on a 40 year old car being "warped".)

Sorry for th confusion. The windscreen that I am selling is crack free. I have three sunscreens. One on my project that is cracked, and two used OEM windshields. I only need one replacement.

FYI, it costs $100 to greyhound a windscreen from Seattle to CA.

I recently had my windshield replaced. The one on the car never fit all that well at the lower corners. The seal would not overlap the body correctly. This was a stamped BMW windshield. A crack developed at the driver's side lower corner, which I believe was a result of the stress placed on the glass due to its incorrect shape. I had it replaced with a Chinese windshield (the only one my windshield guy could locate in the US). It fits perfectly... far better than the BMW one.

Oddly enough, its an XYG. Again, perfect fit.

This CSI windscreen of mine has quite a few Knicks in the glass so it seems.

One of these things is not like the other

They do say that each E9 is slightly different than the rest due to the hand built nature of the cars. I've read that even BMW provided sheet metal needs some adjustment when installing.
Now windows and window openings are an area that's I'd expect very close tolerances on, however, we seem to be experiencing a wide range of fitment with replacements.
I'll have to replace my window rubber but my glass is good, so I'm simply hoping for an uneventfull remove and replace.

I bought another one from w&n on Tuesday. That's 5? this year.
All fit fine.
I took the bmw one with part sticker still on it to the dumpster the same day.
At least an inch too big. Worthless.

Pretty proud of them, huh? WOW..typical. How about the door rubber on the trailing edge just inside the door for over $100! LOL
