While rebuilding my zenith carbs i acquired about 7 sets of zenith carbs and learned a lot about the different configurations. Since they are so many parts, i did not feel confident at first to take mine apart before practicing on several sets
I rebuilt an extra set out of this extra sets and i tested it on my car before proceeding...I still have boxes of original zenith carbs parts that are re plated and could do an extra set..
Both jetted for 3.0 liter engine as per the shop manual
just trying to recoup a bit of $.. I am offering this set for $425 plus shipping

I noticed on my '74 CA car carbs had a slightly different look on one section. I have it circled in the attached picture. Do you know why that part is different and dies it matter?

Thanks

That was added to all MY 74 US coupes and euro 74s as well, manual and automatic. There is a membrane behind it, it must be used for additional fuel enrichment when cold I would guess. Diagram 13/6 in the parts book.

The tag on the carb, 1255952, is the last seven of the part number. These are for a 72/73 US 3.0CS prior to the change, I doubt it would make any difference but the hose would need to be blocked off.

For a 74 MY car in California, I wonder if he needs the same model carbs that were delivered with the car to be smog legal.

No and even if he did they couldn’t tell the difference. 76 and newer need to have their smog pumps, egr, etc to pass a visual inspection, then it is on to the rolling wheel to check tailpipe emissions.

My CRS kicked in. Of course....76 MY is the cut off for having all original smog equipment in place in CA.

I believe the carbs for sale have a "thermal" box in place of that circled........it is indeed as Chris says, for cold starts, an early version of a cold start valve.
