Don't let emotions overtake a good PPI. Looks like lots of filler on the fender tops around strut bearings, near radiator panel too, I wouldn't be surprised if the nose has been replaced, lots of welding evidence there. And they painted over the Karmann plate?

Fender grilles

Nice car, although the fender grilles should be black (as the hood vent grilles are) and having the headlight access covers would be nice as well since they are available. Really hoping to have mine on the road soon which will look very close to this, although with a black interior....

My fender grilles aren't black. Weren't before the restoration on my taiga either.

Let's not forget, there's really no way to know if an E9 has been painted a particular color from the factory w/o the original window sticker.

At least, that's what I understand. There's no "fender tag" or "buildsheet" or "protecto-plate" showing all the options and colors an E9 came with.

So w/o that original window sticker (or whatever it is), don't pay extra for color. of course, sunroof and AC are hard to change, so most likely, a car will have those ordered originally.

I think karman body tag has color code stamped on it.

+1 it has the paint code on the tag in the driver's door jam, but no other info. And BMW can confirm color by the VIN (but not interior etc).
