all years of the 530i ('75 to '78) were 4 speeds ... the 528i started in '79 and was only a 3 year run the e28 - 528e started in '82 with the 533i starting in '83.

The door card chrome strips on this car look a little different than the ones on our cars, but if I didn't have strips in my car I would considering buying these door cards from Don and cannibalizing them for the strips.

Thanks for clarifying @rsporsche! I could have sworn that there were ‘78 528i’s but I know that I am wrong. ;). I have 635’s on the brain. At any rate, I never ever see any ‘79 528i’s with a 5spd. Always a disappointment. ‘80 and and ‘81 always have them.

It’s not for lack of searching...

I know that many '79's were automatics in the US. similar to the approach of the 733i introduction to the US (in '78) ... all were autos. unfortunately i threw away my e12 blue manuals and i can't look it up ... but you are probably right about the e12 changing in 1980 to a 5 speed. i know the '78 was a 530i as i should have bought one (in granatrot) rather than the topazbraun '79 automatic.
@Markos, in this case i think you mean 630 to 633's as 635's didn't hit the Americas until later.

Jay, 533i's had a 265 - 5 speed, but no speedo drive.

Good discussion. I am referring to 1978 euro 635’s with a G265/5. I don’t look for US e24’s, but I regularly look for my undelivered dog-leg. Thanks Bob Beverly!

I hadn’t heard that the 533i had a G265. It is documented on mye28 that it was a 260. This FAQ is pretty helpful, and has had many eyes on it:

Markos,

As discussed you may be in luck on your late Xmas wish. I still need to remove them. But one may find it's way up to the Pacific Northwest one day soon...time permitting.

I relied on that & a post from @sfdon when I turned down pulling a free 533 from a field in Nov. It was enough work that I might have been looking for that answer.

Car is being towed to my shop this week.
Don--Are the armrests in this 528 the same as those in our Coupes? I need to replace the tan upper part under the chrome top. Please let me know if you're parting out the interior. Thanks, Drew
