sure you have seen this story, but for those like me, a friend sent these:

" Before the 2000 CS, the predecessor of the E 9 came out, Michelotti applied with his own design for the "New Class" coupé, namely the Michelotti 1800 TI shown here Coupe. These photos are from an old photo album of mine from 1982, when I viewed the car, which was supposed to cost 5000 DM at the time, from a collector in Kaiserslautern, but I didn't buy it. As the man told me, the car went to BMW in Munich in 2014 and is now being restored there. The man received a new BMW as the purchase price, but I can't remember which model."

The original post was edited by moderators because I copied the term “Schlitzaugencoupé” that google translated as “slanted eyes coupe” o “coupe de ojos rasgados”

moderators said that the term is derogatory,….and deleted it

well… apparently yes, it is derogatory if referred to a person, but it is referred to a car, “the 2000cs has slanted eyes“, and this has nothing to do with an Asian person, or with anything Asian

eye is a metaphor of headlight
an the headlight is slanted as it leans to one direction

Ridiculous

How did I know you would bitch about removing *two unnecessary words from your thread? The term added nothing to the content yet is offensive to some forum members. Have a little more empathy and get over it. The forum moderators are not out to get you, no matter how much you complain about this privately-owned, volunteer-supported, invaluable forum.

Technical note:
The 2000CS headlights are perfectly parallel to the ground. They have no slant. If you google “bmw 2000cs” “slant eyes” or “eyed”, you get no results. Nobody uses this derogatory term to highlight the NK coupe.

I suspect the German term (which when googled appears a lot for the NK model) may refer to the vertical plane of the lights being at a narrow angle (not 90 degrees) to the ground, basically the nice anti-aerodynamic shark nose angle that later defined the 2002 and E24.

If that is the case the racial metaphor is even less relevant, however the term itself may be tainted. Keep in mind that master cylinder is also taboo when posting...

BTW, the car in DQ's picture looks pretty cool.

de Quincey, I was 10 years old in 1951. The propangada and racism of the war in the Pacific infected the culture like none before it. The popular term that I as a 10 year old heard everywhere was, "Slant Eyed G**ks. This deep seated prejduice against the Japanese and all Asians in general can be traced back to the late 1800s or earlier.

It is buried deep in the American imagination. And deep in many other cultures. I could rattle off half a dozen Asian "jokes" and a couple of images that today you and I would fine appallingly racist that circulated comfortably in my adolescence.
