Hi guys, my m30 has an oil cooler which appears to be doing nothing so I'm assuming that there is a thermostat of some description in the filter head which has failed. A quick check on real oem shows no internal parts available and I ain't shelling out for a new one. Does anyone know of a replacement part or do you just open it up and bin the stat? Ideally I'd like a stat in there as I don't want the oil to run too cold.
Thanks in advance

As always it depends! What type of filter head do you have, one like this below image.jpg

Thanks for the reply, mine is the earlier type without the screw on filter. It has the large socket head cap on the side which I assume houses the thermostat.

The spin on bit is a Bert mod. The original was a normal m30 bottom screw filter bowl. Most m30 oil filter heads are common and interchangeable. This one was fitted to an CSi.

The one on my engine is the same as the one fitted as standard to the m90 e12 m535. It definitely looks different to that one. Where yours has the cover held by 3 bolts mine has the large Allen key cap.
In either case do you know of a repair piece or modification or someone that might?
Thanks

the 4 bolt casting to the crankcase is universal throughout the m30 range. If the oil cooler in/outlet pipes are the same size and location on your engine to fit this head then this this would be an option.
