Oil Pressure on Start Up

I am putting thicker oil in but not running the engine until ther sump has been off.

Something is wrong with the oil system. I looked at the old oil-cooler filter body and removed the spring loaded plunger for the oil cooler and found the attached picture of a break on the inside of the unit. You might have to zoom in to see the fracture which has pushed the spring loaded valve for the oil cooler off centre and the same for the hole where the bolt goes. What on earth could have caused the housing to break in such a manner unless it was some product deficiency or metal fatigue.

I guess there could be some pieces of the housing in my system now, hence the lack of oil pressure.

You'll probably want to drop the pan and see what potential damage may be there.

Also maybe replace the oil pump while you're there.
