I didn't see anyone mentioning Brad Penn oil. That was recommended for my Porsche's and I saw Jeff Tighe used it on an oil change in one of my receipts for the Coupe.
It looks like high grade zinc used in it. Whatever that means but never had any issues or heard anything bad about it. Not cheap but quality comes at a price.
Isn't 20W50 on the heavy side for an M30? I think I have 10W40 in mine. I do use 20W50 VR1 in my 911. I don't drive it in the winter save for a rare warmer day with clear and non-salty roads, but it's heavy enough oil that I won't start the engine if it's below about 25F.

As I remember, the chart above is also for the M10 I had in my 2002. I used 15W50 in that engine for almost 30 years.
I have not had my CS long enough after its restoration to do an oil change yet - but I plan on using either the same M1 15W-50 or Delvac1 4W-40 as appropriate. That reminds me I need to visit Don on that...
Either way -
If you want to geek out in the oil world - There are a couple of venues to help you in that regard....
#1 - Bob is the Oil Guy forum
#2 "The Motor Oil Geek" channel on YouTube....
Both them are good to use to increase your knowledge - but the starting point is ALWAYS the manufacturers recommendation.
FWIW - I will be doing an oil change on my German market E23 728i in a few weeks. I just checked the owners manual on that car. The oil graphic above is the same - the chart is a different format, but with the same content.
