Old style red fan (mechanical coupling) question

99 would mean date of production of that fan. Not that any new cars were being produced that used that fan in 99.

BMW says production ceased July of 2017

Used to put in small fibre shims in the center hole of the fan clutch itself so the fan would lock up in some situations, sooner or tighter This took up the loosness that developed over the years as parts wore. Shims were not that thick and if I remember right, most that we would put in was 3 Worked just fine after that
