Other Car Cultures

@cicada, they did have amazing colors and you're right, almost nobody ordered them. Maybe that's why Mercedes doesn't offer such a wide palette these days,
although I have seen some pretty snazzy shades on the newer SL's.

I nearly bought a 450SLC last year just because it was Cactus Green! Mmmmm... with matching green fabric interior, simply beautiful. It was relatively cheap, too.
Like nearly all SLC's. The W111's look great in just about any color but I'm leaning toward Light Ivory because it's a nice contrast with blue leather, and won't require
total disassembly to change from Papyrus White. And of course, losing the side markers... already have a nice set of Euro headlights.

Pretty sure most early W111s had Webasto sunroofs. They were huge and simple to operate: pull down the "T" handle, twist it to lower the back edge and throw it back. Not sure about the later electric roofs on the "Flach Kuhler" jobs being Goldes or not.

That is a cool car. Those black stripes are to locate the jack recievers when it's sill deep in mud. The headlights were always changed to the USA export style. Easier to change out broken ones or the originals really aren't as good?
Well on the Euro lights the whole assembly has to come out. On the US lights, it is indeed easier to service. Just as well, if you break your Euro glass, well, it's busted. If you break a US light, it's just the light. So I can see how the US assembly is superior for rallying. But I'm no rally expert, we should page @Belgiumbarry. I wish I could have bought his sick rally car and imported it here.

Probably the one car that I wish I kept (sold in 2021) was my '63 15w:

I’ve been into the muscle car scene for years having restored several makes and models as well as classics. Doing everything myself really saves the coin, but is a lot of work. Here’s a few of my cars I’ve done.
Couple of old Chevy trucks, 1969-1/2 A12 Super Bee, 1968 Ford Mustang GT, 70 Cuda 340-4spd Shaker hood, I could go on and on....
